Applicants seeking a marriage license must appear together in the Marriage License Department of the Register of Wills Office and complete an application for a marriage license. Photo identification is required at the time of application.
Other information that is needed at the time of application is to provide the place where both parents were born, and their present address.
WHAT ABOUT PRIOR MARRIAGES?
Applicants who have been previously married and divorced must furnish a certified copy of the most recent divorce decree dissolving the marriage. The divorce decree must be in effect for 30 days before applying for the marriage license. Certified copies of divorce decrees may be obtained in the county/state where the divorce was granted. A widow or widower must provide the date of death of their former spouse.
After applying for the marriage license, there is a three day waiting period between the date the applicants apply for a marriage license and when the license may be issued. The license is good for 60 days from the date it is issued and may be picked up from the Marriage License Department by either of the applicants, a friend, or a relative. Cost of the license is $45.00, cash only.
Marriage applications are taken from 8:30 to 3:30, Monday thru Friday with the exception of holidays. The Register of Wills office is located on the third floor of the Westmoreland County Courthouse, 2 North Main Street, Suite 301, Greensburg, Pennsylvania 15601
